Roses are red....

From Ms. Annie:

Today in science we talked about Valentine’s Day and why we have it. Ms. Annie read the book Valentine Surprise, and we discussed things that we do for others on that holiday.  We said that sometimes people get flowers on Valentine’s, and we wanted to see if  we could make white carnations turn red.  Ms. Annie put red food coloring into a cup of water, and we talked about how the water travels up the stem to the flower.  We are going to check the flower later today and tomorrow to see if there is a change in the color.  We also made hearts out of chenille sticks, that will hopefully turn out to be crystallized hearts! We mixed Borax with boiling water and dropped the hearts in the water using a string and a pencil.  We can’t wait to see on Thursday if they are crystallized!
